Many Baby-Boomers, having grown up watching the Jetsons, the US-Russian Space Race and early James Bond movies, half-seriously ask 'Where’s my flying car?" 

Until now there have only been promises and a couple of jet packs floating around, but that’s all changing. Current and upcoming technologies include the Terrafugia Transition, the Martin Jetpack and NASA's really cool Puffin.

The Puffin (see video) is a one-person electric powered Tilt Rotor Aircraft that is quiet and will have the capability to cruise at 150 mph. The pilot steps into the vehicle and takes off vertically. Then the craft pitches forward so that the pilot flies from a prone position. During take-off and landing, the tail splits into four sections to serve as a landing gear.

Although current battery technology would give the Puffin only a 50-mile range, that would be enough for most of us to enjoy a lovely day of flying over rush hour traffic while listening to Frank Sinatra, of course!
