slide film

Kodachrome, invented by musicians (you read that right, musicians) Leopold Godowsky and Leopold Mannes in the early 1930’s, is legendary Mannes & Godowskyfor its ability render a sharp image, rich color, and superior image stability.  However, the unique processing of the film is expensive because it requires a large photo lab, chemists, and careful monitoring of every step of the film’s development.

With the invention of digital photography and ink jet printers creating less need for film, Kodak has eliminated film from its lineup and reduced the number of rolls it produces for existing lines. The demand for Kodachrome processing has dropped to a point where there is now only one lab in the world that can develop it.

With the advancements in technology, you’ll always be able to get “those nice bright colors… the greens of summers,” and in the end it will be Kodak, not mama, who takes your Kodachrome away!
