"If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?"
Stephen Wright
Now that summer is here, some of us are already complaining about the heat. But according to the Goddard Space Flight Center (www.nasa.gov/goddard), there are some really hot places that exist on earth that make our summer look rather tepid. Some locations in Pakistan, India, and the middle east often reach 110 – 120 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in the United States was a blistering 134 degrees in Death Valley in July of 1913. But it was Aziziyah, Libya that secured the global record when the temperature topped out at a scorching 136 degrees in September of 1922.
So the next time you feel the heat getting to you, relax, get a cool drink, and wave back at the heat! |
