Mother's Day Carnations
Don't Forget Mom on May 11th!

Anna Jarvis started a crusade to found a memorial day for women to honor her mother Ann, an Appalachian homemaker who had attempted to improve sanitation Anna Jarvisfor both sides of the American Civil War. Mother’s Day was first celebrated on May 10, 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia and quickly spread to 45 states. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother’s Day.

Nine years after that declaration, Anna Jarvis became a major opponent of Mother’s Day because of the rampant commercialization.

According to the US Census Bureau, there are 120 greeting card companies, 21,135 floral establishments, 29,624 jewelry stores, and Mother’s Day is the busiest restaurant day of the year. So on this Mother’s Day you have a lot of chances to be good to your mom; remember, she always had an extra hand for you when you needed it.
