John Muir (1838 – 1914), founder of the Sierra Club, served as its first president from 1892 until his death in 1914. A staunch preservationist, Muir’s writings and philosophy were the foundation on which the modern environmental movement was built and lead to the establishment of the U.S. Park System, including, during his lifetime, Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, and the Petrified Forest.
As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, we hope you take the time to honor the environment, appreciate nature, and celebrate our attachment to the rest of the world.
